The owners of this 1920’s Tudor wanted to gut the home and
expand it in order to create a larger home that better suited
their lifestyle. The 4500 square foot home presented special
challenges because of difficult site conditions; the property sloped sharply,
making approach to the site as well as the actual construction, all the
more difficult.
Connecting and converting the existing detached two-car garage to an attached three-car garage with guest and service living space above was a priority for the owner. Among the interior challenges was matching new herringbone wood floors to existing ones and installing sophisticated mechanical systems.
The eventual result was a gracefully built multi-tier property that provides
the perfect setting for the newly expanded and renovated multi-level home,
which now measures 11,000 square feet. There are seven bedrooms, eight baths,
an attached three-car garage, and a home automation system that permits operation
of the house controls from anywhere in the world.
The new exterior was carefully constructed from stone and stucco to complement the multi-colored Vermont slate roof and match the existing home.
