This project involved the renovation of a residence that was originally the staff wing of a three-part Georgian home. In the 1940’s the wing was cut off and relocated across the street to its current location. The renovation included work in the bedroom wing and kitchen, and the project included substituting the interior framing with engineered lumber to meet current builder codes and standards.
The kitchen, as featured on the cover of Gourmet magazine in February 1995, has natural cherry cabinets that were custom milled for the job. The new windows and doors were also custom made to match those of the existing home. The remainder of the kitchen features maple floors, slate counters and backsplash, and stainless steel commercial appliances, including a dishwasher that can finish the dishes in 90 seconds.
The bedroom work involved increasing the ceiling height and altering the interiors so that it was more appropriate for the homeowner’s needs. The results included a walkout bay window, tray ceiling, and a completely new master bathroom and closets.
