Seeking to build a pool house that would keep with the elegance of their Georgian Colonial home, the owners of this four-acre, private property in Chappaqua hired Brenner Builders in 2004.
The clapboard-sided structure was designed as a study in symmetry, mimicking the windows and architectural details of the main house. An elevated enclosure that serves as a sitting room connects the two buildings, seamlessly bridging the kitchen in the main house to the pool house.
The 2,100-square-foot, three-story structure features a walnut-paneled office suite with decorative, plaster cornice and a guest suite adjacent to the custom paneled stairway that leads to the main level below. Downstairs, the heart of the pool house is the 15’ x 30’ light-filled living room, an entertainment space boasting custom cabinetry and wide plank oak floors with double walnut inlaid border. Three sets of French doors open to the expansive covered porch where detailed artistry is exemplified in the coffered ceiling, copper roof, and stately columns.
The accessory kitchen is also outfitted with custom cabinetry. A full bath, laundry vestibule, exercise and recreation space, and garage were also constructed.
The indoors is graciously integrated with the outdoors via a breezeway below the enclosed bridge as well as by way of the covered porch where a bluestone floor leads to a spa terrace overlooking the pool and gardens. Extensive site work was required for the multiple elevations.
During construction of the new pool house, the master bedroom suite and basement in the main house were renovated, as well. The new master suite includes an elegant bedroom with an enhanced fireplace and window seat, a large dressing area, vestibule, custom cabinetry closet, and a luxurious bath with steam shower, whirlpool, dressing table, and wall-to-wall vanity and storage unit featuring arched millwork.
The basement of the main house was reconfigured to include a carpeted playroom and media area with updated fireplace, wood paneled walls, and a refreshment area.
