In 2006, Brenner Builders was hired to build a timeless, modern home on a 74-acre hillside parcel overlooking an Upstate New York Reservoir. The expansive stucco and glass home was designed by the New York architectural firm of Deborah Berke and Partners. Composed of three separate structures—a main house, guest house, and gym—the design called for meticulous craftsmanship throughout.
Three managers supervised this large-scale project, which included both construction and property development. With nine separate budgets, 143 formal plan revisions, and 50 sub-contractors, communication and cooperation among all key players were top priorities. A long driveway provides a careful sequence of experiences when a visitor is approaching the new 27,000-square foot, stucco, mahogany, and glass building.
Stone artisans built a parking court adjacent to the two-story glass entry hall to facilitate access to the pair of 10-foot mahogany doors. A metal-and-glass staircase was built onsite and now rises from the temperature-controlled marble entry hall floor to the second level.
Brenner Builders installed custom cabinetry, doors, millwork and windows in the first floor’s library, living room, family room, and dining room. Chef and family work spaces were integrated in a state-of-the art kitchen. A second staircase and a Thyssen-Krup elevator were constructed to provide easy access to both the second level and the basement.
The master and family suites were built on the second floor, along with an office, secondary laundry room, and playroom. Ten main house bathrooms were customized with cabinetry from Brenner Millworks. Plumbing manifolds were installed for each bathroom to serve as supply line control centers to provide hot or cold water on demand.
The media room, piano room, art storage facility, game room, wine cellar, laundry center and mechanical rooms were all built in the basement according to architectural specifications. The primary mechanical space, a 2,000 square foot, sound-proof room, serves as a hub for the geo-thermal HVAC, electrical, cable, phone, security, lighting and audio visual systems.
A subterranean hallway was constructed to connect the main house to the gym. This separate structure was customized with a two-story wall of glass, half basketball court, state-of-the-art audio-visual systems, hospitality space, shower room, lavatory and direct access to outdoor terraces, the new tennis court (with custom mahogany and stainless fencing) and pool.
The guest house was built simultaneously and includes three bedroom suites, a Brenner Millworks custom kitchen, living room, family room, powder room, laundry room, elevator, and 10 garage bays that came with car washing equipment.
